Why we love our Strabathie Village development in Blackdog

6th Nov, 2024

Nestled within the peaceful hamlet of Blackdog, our Strabathie Village development has been a popular place to call home since launching in 2022. Offering a stunning coastal location and excellent connectivity to Aberdeen city centre - less than a 20 minute drive away - it certainly offers residents the best of both worlds.

In this blog post, we caught up with Kirkwood team members to find out what they love most about this impressive development, and why it's the perfect fit for a variety of buyers who are searching for their dream home on the edge of Aberdeen city and shire…

Strabathie Village

Gwendolynne Marcar, Sales Advisor

“I think Blackdog is a bit of a hidden gem! It’s not a place I had been to before I started working at Kirkwood but it's now a place I love. The stunning sea views and proximity to the beach, along with the peace and quiet of being in a small hamlet, makes it a lovely setting to call home. Not only that - with the AWPR on the doorstep, the location is very accessible to Aberdeen, as well as North, West and South of the city. I think this is what makes Blackdog very appealing as a location, as it offers residents the best of both worlds.

“There are a variety of home styles here and a definite feeling of space in the way the homes are laid out on site. The development enjoys areas of greenery and enough space between each home which creates a lovely layout.”

Ewan Aiken, Site Manager

“Strabathie Village is definitely a family friendly development. The houses are specifically designed for family living being 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes, and there’s a lot of green areas within the development, which means it’s well suited for young families or couples looking to settle down and have children. That being said, I could also see the appeal for downsizers or those looking to retire as the location is very peaceful, and the homes are nicely spread out with many positioned to really enjoy the coastal views.

“I’m sure it’ll come as no surprise but my favourite thing about Strabathie Village has to be the view! When I drive into work each morning with the sun beginning to rise, the boats sailing on the sea and the windmills in the distance, it really does cheer me up. The coastal views really are beautiful, coupled with the sound of the waves, which is lovely.”

Strabathie Village

Jake Florence, Construction Director

“Overall, my favourite thing about this development is the stunning views of the North Sea. For all my life - even as a child - I have enjoyed the coast, whether it’s listening to the sound of crashing waves, taking in the calm and still waters, or taking a nice stroll along the beach. The residents here are truly spoiled, having a pretty sandy beach and such amazing vistas right on the doorstep!”

Allan Rae, Land Director

“Strabathie Village is strategically positioned with great access to the AWPR, making employment locations in the city and the airport very easy and quick to get to. The development is also just a stone’s throw from the beach, which is an absolutely fantastic asset. This allows you to walk northwards to Balmedie and beyond, or southwards to the Bridge of Don.

“I think the availability of our high quality homes at accessible prices is very appealing for a range of buyers. I think for me, the fact that it’s set in a well connected and attractive location would have to be my favourite thing about this development.”

Aaron Macaskill, Technical Director

“Across all of our developments, we’re continually adapting and updating our homes in line with our customers’ feedback. For instance, we’ve incorporated more home office spaces and flexible living areas on the ground floor, as well as modern heating systems with smart home controls. This means our customers can enjoy modern, comfortable lifestyles in a home which has been built to a specification which is truly unrivalled.

“My favourite thing about Strabathie Village is its location, there are very few new home developments with direct access onto a beautiful beach. This development also benefits from excellent transportation links to key employment areas, such as Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Prime 4 business park and Aberdeen International Airport.”

Jon Morrison, Senior Architectural Technologist

“At Strabathie Village, we incorporated Russwood Thermopine pre-weathered cladding in the exterior design of our homes. This creates a really impressive look against the darker grey windows and ties in nicely with the coastal location. Internally, we’ve made sure the homes have light and spacious hallways for a welcoming atmosphere as customers step through the door to their home, which is something we try to maintain throughout our full range of housetypes.

“Of course, the location has to be my favourite part of the development which is perhaps, unsurprising! It’s not just the seaside outlook and easy access to the beach that makes the location so appealing, but the proximity to the AWPR is really practical for commuting.”

Greig Simmers, Site Manager

“Personally, Strabathie Village is one of the best developments I have worked on in my 20 years in construction. Up until recently I was one of the Site Managers for this development and the homes are completed to a very high standard, they are also set out brilliantly on site and the development has a real ‘family friendly’ feel to it. This is topped off by the beautiful coastal views, as we are just a stone’s throw from a lovely beach where residents can enjoy walks and picnics.

“Overall, Strabathie Village is a peaceful countryside development with so much beautiful landscape surrounding it, yet it’s only a few miles from Aberdeen city centre. In my opinion, Kirkwood picked an excellent area to build superb homes for our potential customers.

“As someone who has just taken up golf, the fact that this development is so close to some fantastic golf courses - such as Newburgh on Ythan, Trump International, Murcar, and Royal Aberdeen - would really appeal to me if I were to move here!”
