Sheena and her husband Nick, alongside their two children Jess and Andrew, moved into their outstanding new Kirkwood home at The Brambles in Sauchen in 2021. After returning home to Aberdeen following years spent living abroad, they felt it was time to upsize and find their dream family home in the countryside.
They recently invited us through the doors of their beautiful 5 bedroom 'Drumallan' home, and it was fantastic to see how they've settled in already - with a new addition to the family, Bentley the Cavapoo.
Why did you choose the Drumallan housetype?
“For me personally, the large open-plan kitchen, dining and family area in ‘The Drumallan’ sold it for me as we wanted to have a hub in our home where we all spend quality time. We also love to cook and I love to bake for the whole family.
“The layout of the house was also a big selling point. There are five spacious bedrooms, as well as a separate dining room, which is Nick’s office. I have also transformed the fifth bedroom into a craft and sewing room.
“When you walk into the house it has that instant wow-factor. The hallway feels really light, spacious, and welcoming with the winding staircase and high ceilings. We also have a large cupboard at the front door which offers lots of useful storage space.”
What is your favourite thing about your new home?
“The kitchen, without a doubt, as we spend lots of time in this space as a family. Jessica and I love having the space to bake, while the boys enjoy watching TV and playing the Xbox in the family area.
“The kitchen, dining and family area is the perfect space for hosting and socialising with friends and family. The breakfast bar allows us to sit and chat to each other while cooking, and the French doors leading to the patio area creates a lovely indoor/outdoor space where we can enjoy barbecues on sunny days. The kitchen really is the hub of our home!”
What other features do you love about your home?
“We really love the lounge - it’s a space that we can use in the evenings to watch TV or play table football.
“There are also two en-suites which are fantastic. The master en-suite is well proportioned, and having one in the guest bedroom is perfect for when we have friends and family staying over."
How would you describe the quality of your Kirkwood home?
“We have been very impressed with the quality of our new home. You can tell that the doors and windows are of a really high quality, as well as the insulation throughout the home - we already feel that it’s nice and cosy.
What attracted you to Sauchen?
“After living away from home, we realised that we didn’t want to move into the city and instead wanted somewhere with open space and plenty of walks and cycle routes, as we were already planning on getting a dog.”
“After visiting an impressive showhome in Dunecht, we spoke with the Sales Advisor who told us about The Brambles development in Sauchen. The location itself is lovely and nothing is far away. We are only a 15 minute drive away from both Westhill and Inverurie which is ideal. There is a really nice walking route that takes you to the local school, as well as walking and cycling paths to Castle Fraser.
“There’s an ice cream van that comes to the development twice a week which the kids love, we also really like Echt Tandoori and Jaff’s Bar in Dunecht, which is only a short drive from us.”
What do you like most about the development?
“For us, we love the plot, it has a large driveway with grass and hedges which is a really nice touch and the back garden gives us plenty of privacy as nobody overlooks us. The development has a variety of homes, grassy areas and beautiful scenic views of the countryside all around.
“We often take our dog out on walks around the area and everyone has been very friendly which makes it feel like a nice safe place to live.”
What was the buying process like with Kirkwood and what impressed you most?
“Our Sales Advisor was extremely helpful and patient and was never once pushy throughout the whole process. She listened to our needs and wants, and helped us to personalise our home. We had fun choosing our kitchen doors and bathroom tiles.
“We received regular updates from Kirkwood both during and after the buying process which made it a very positive experience overall.”
