“Initially I considered our Sauchen development ‘The Brambles’ which is just across the road from the Kirkwood Head Office, but after a little more thought, I realised that I actually preferred our smaller Dunecht development, Cowdray Meadows.”
With two children almost ready to fly the nest, our Financial Controller, Fiona, decided it was time to downsize and find a brand new home which offered her the peace and tranquillity of the Scottish countryside.
With lots of walking trails nearby and just a 10 minute drive from the Kirkwood offices, she felt that our beautiful Cowdray Meadows development in Dunecht would be the perfect place for her to call home.
We caught up with Fiona to discuss how she is settling into her new home - the fantastic 3 bedroom detached ‘Craig’ - why she chose this particular housetype and her experience of the buying journey with Kirkwood buying journey with Kirkwood…
“Initially I considered our Sauchen development ‘The Brambles’ which is just across the road from the Kirkwood Head Office, but after a little more thought, I realised that I actually preferred our smaller Dunecht development, Cowdray Meadows.”
“I chose Cowdray Meadows in the lovely village of Dunecht as it offers wonderful walks within the area for myself and Rosie my labrador to enjoy. The fact it is close to my work was also an added benefit - I’m only a few minutes drive to the Kirkwood offices which is ideal!
“I also love the sense of community here, it’s a friendly place to live. There’s also a local garage and shop for everyday items, an excellent bar and restaurant and a wider range of amenities just a few minutes drive away at Westhill.”
“It’s a bonus to go for a walk without needing the car - with different trails and tracks to choose from, many of which are right on your doorstep - and ideal for dog owners. You can walk up Barmekin Hill or even all the way to the Loch of Skene, there are plenty of options to choose from.”
The layout and design of The Craig appealed to me - it really felt like the ideal home to suit all our needs, but not too large for me to upkeep when the boys have flown the nest!

“I was really hoping to downsize which was proving particularly difficult as naturally you compare a potential home with the space and scale of your current property. The challenge was to find a home that offered all the space I needed and the features I really wanted, so the move would feel a lot easier.
“When I viewed ‘The Craig’, I was completely surprised – this house was the perfect fit for me. It has lovely features that are usually found in larger homes, such as a utility room and a stunning en-suite with a shower enclosure and lovely centralised bath - it’s quite the indulgence!
“The layout and design of The Craig appealed to me - it really felt like the ideal home to suit all our needs, but not too large for me to upkeep when the boys have flown the nest!”
“It’s difficult to pick out a few things because I love everything about my new home - it’s so spacious and open! I really like the generous hall and the fact that it’s very light and bright, which is something which guests have noticed too when visiting. All the room sizes are ideal, the bedrooms all have built-in wardrobes and there are further storage cupboards to keep everyday items out of sight!
“The kitchen is absolutely perfect for entertaining, it is just the right size and the hub of my home. It's ideal for dining with family and guests, there’s enough space to comfortably seat everyone.
“The patio doors that open up to the garden are just beautiful and are very convenient for both myself and Rosie. Having the enclosed garden also gives me peace of mind - I don’t have to worry about Rosie escaping! The garage is another feature - I have a pass door from the utility room to the garage, so there’s no need to go outside.”
“The quality is outstanding, ‘The Craig’ came with a top of the range German kitchen and high-spec appliances. The sanitaryware is also really high quality, as are the internal oak doors. The attention to detail on other items such as the lovely ironmongery is great too.
“‘The Craig’ certainly has kerb-appeal, it is a pretty house - almost cottage-style - which I love. All my visiting friends have been amazed at how spacious the house is internally, and have been suitably impressed by the features, specification and the finish. I am now happily settled in this quiet, friendly development and really couldn’t be happier in my lovely new home!”
“Although I work for Kirkwood, my job is completely separate from the sales department so it was still a procedure I wasn’t overly familiar with. I would often hear everyone talking about the sales process but had never actually gone through it myself.
“I had regular updates so I knew what was happening and even though I am a member of staff, I still had the sales journey just like any other customer which resulted in feeling well supported through the whole process. Kirkwood also have a new customer care app which is a fantastic tool, easy to navigate and very user friendly. If I have any questions or issues, it’s really helpful as I can quickly submit them on the app and have a speedy response. ”
