"We previously lived in Pittenweem, just a little further along the coast, but with the kids all moved out the house had become far too big for us. We wanted a new build this time round, as our previous two properties had both been projects and we wanted to move into a home where we didn't need to do anything."

Karen and Alan Stirling, along with their beloved pooch, moved into their new Potarch home at The Paddocks in Colinsburgh at the end of last year.
With their children having flown the nest, the couple were ready to downsize from a much larger property - and after two previous homes that had both been renovation projects, they were determined that their next move would be somewhere they could simply move in and enjoy, with nothing to do.
What made you choose The Paddocks?
"We chose the Potarch after watching the virtual tour and loving the design. When we went to see Tom, he suggested we visit the Potarch show home up at Strabathie Village in Blackdog - and that was honestly the best thing we did, because the house was even better in real life. We came home with so much inspiration from that visit that we had our family bathroom done exactly like the show home."
What do you love most about your new home?
"Even being a new build, the interior still has real character - having the staircase in the middle gives the hallway a lovely look. Our favourite room has to be the living room; it's a generous size with brilliant patio doors onto the garden, which is wonderful at this time of year with the sun streaming in."

"We also got in touch with the interior designers Kirkwood work with on the design of their showhomes, Thomas Fischer, who came and did all our curtains and blinds for us - it's made such a difference to finishing the house exactly how we wanted it."
What do you enjoy about living in Colinsburgh?
"We were already familiar with the area, having lived there before for a short spell while we were renovating our house in Pittenweem. It's a great little community - there are events on in the village hall for everyone throughout the year, and the woods nearby are lovely for a walk.
Day-to-day life here is very peaceful and friendly. We're at work all week, so we really make the most of our weekends in the garden. The neighbours and wider community have a great, welcoming family atmosphere.
There are lovely beaches and golf courses close by too, and our commute to work is only about five minutes longer than it was before - so it's been a really easy adjustment."
What made The Paddocks stand out to you?
"The location is fantastic - easy access to the East Neuk, only around 30 minutes to the motorway for Edinburgh, and the train station in Leven is just 15 minutes away. The development itself has been really well designed too; the houses look amazing and the green space is lovely."
How was the buying process with Kirkwood Homes?
"Buying and selling houses is always stressful, but Tom made it as easy as possible for us. He was brilliant when it came to picking the kitchen, bathrooms, flooring and all the extras we wanted, and explained everything really well so it felt simple rather than overwhelming.
